Year A Collects

1 Advent – Year A

Watchful God,

you are attentively alert

to our every need.

Awaken us to be so alert,

watchful.

We pray never to be left behind,

nor leave others behind.

Let us watch through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

2 Advent – Year A

God of water and fire,

God of wind and breath,

all Holy Spirit,

you wash us,

set us aflame,

and enthuse us

with life breath.

Send us forth now

to douse the world

with your fire,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

3 Advent – Year A

God, who hears

and sees

what we avoid

by plugging our ears and averting our eyes,

you have brought the kingdom near.

Help us to see

when we are blind,

to walk

when we are lame,

to hear

when we are deaf,

and to be good news for others,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

4 Advent – Year A

God of our inner lives,

you gifted Joseph

with the ability to

ponder in silence,

to dream your will,

to act without fear.

Silence our tongues and monkey minds

so that we too may

ponder,

dream,

and act

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

1 Christmas – Year A

God of light and life,

your Word pitched his tent,

dwelling like a nomad,

following us wherever we run.

May we stop and ask:

“Who is this living with us?”

None other than Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

2 Christmas – Year A

God of exiles and immigrants,

you lead us back home,

from wherever has been our Egypt.

Save us now

as we enter again your promised land,

the land of life fulfilled,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

1 Epiphany

God who washes,

and cleans away our un-baptized reluctance,

you call us beloved.

So loved, may we love in turn

all your sons and daughters,

and so be in solidarity with Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

2 Epiphany

God who waits for us

to be who we will become,

you give each of us a new name

for us to try on.

As we go to call our brothers and sisters,

guide us to live into our new name,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

3 Epiphany – Year A

God of the kingdom near at hand,

you sent your son to let us know

you are in our neighborhood.

Now you call us from our old nets,

into a much bigger sea

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

4 Epiphany – Year A

Blessed and blessing God,

your son and your prophets taught us

that we also are blessed

when we do justice,

love kindness,

and walk humbly with you, our God.

May we do what is required of us

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

Presentation – Year A

Father of us all, both young and old,

you send piercing light,

slicing darkness.

We pray to be old Simeon.

We pray to be old Anna.

Oh, that we could see light as they did,

in all who are presented to us,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

5 Epiphany

God of sweat, tears and sea,

God of these three salty places,

you have added a fourth

making us the salt of the earth.

God of sun, supernovas and stars,

God of all places of light,

you have made us the light of the world.

Give us courage to own our cosmic selves,

to step out to flavor and beam for others,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

6 Epiphany – year A

God, beyond all law,

beyond all convention,

you call us to move beyond,

beyond what we have heard said.

You give us meaning,

a life not worthy of Gehenna, the dump,

but a life through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

7 Epiphany – Year A

God of acceptance,

you have no enemies,

because you have loved us all into your embrace.

Empower us to love our enemies,

to pray for their good.

Then we will be free together,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

Last Epiphany – Year A

God of all transformations,

God of all glowing faces,

you have invited us to the mountain,

invited us to glow in bright light,

dazzling white.

We accept.

Lead us on through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

1 Lent – Year A

God, soothing our wasteland,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

2 Lent – Year A

God from above,

giving new life again and again,

you call us to be born heavenward.

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

3 Lent – Year A

God of spirit and truth,

when our buckets are empty and the well is deep,

and we can worship you in spirit and truth,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

4 Lent – Year A

God of vision,

of sight beyond the obvious,

you mud our eyes

so we may see what has been hidden

since our birth.

Give us courage now to reach out

to what we newly see,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

 5 Lent – Year A

God, who opens doors,

even the stone doors of our tombs,

you always offer us new life.

When our bones are dry,

and we seem dead,

you summon the wind,

“Come from the four winds, O breath.”

You call “Come out!”

May we now live through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

Palm Sunday – Year A

God of all patience,

you do not give up on us

even when one moment we cheer

“Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord,”

then like a flash fizzed cold

we chant with chill “Crucify.”

We hear you echoed in your son

“Father, forgive them.”

Father, forgive us,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

Easter – Year A

God of living always new,

raising us up from

one God for ever and ever. Amen

2 Easter – Year A

God of peace,

like a hawk souring,

like a torrent flowing,

holding peace in the midst of conflict,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God for ever and ever. Amen

one God for ever and ever. Amen
